The TORONTO BLUE JAYS will return home to a sold out Rogers Centre for the Honda Home Opener on Monday, April 9th against the Boston Red Sox at 7:07pm. The Blue Jays invite fans to arrive early to Rogers Centre, avoid any lineups and be part of the festive atmosphere. Gates will open at 5:00pm.
Upon entering Rogers Centre fans will receive a Honda Home Opener rally towel and during the game one lucky fan will become the proud owner of a new 2012 Honda CRV courtesy of Honda Canada. Also being awarded to two fans at the game will be a new 2012 CBR250RA Honda Motorcycle and a Honda lawn care kit featuring the 4-in-1 Honda lawnmower.
In addition, the winner of the Jays Care Foundation 50/50 draw, presented by Ericsson, has the potential to take home up to $30,000.
Prior to the first pitch the Blue Jays will recognize the tremendous accomplishments of outfielder Jose Bautista during the 2011 season. In 2011 Jose led the Major Leagues with 43 home runs, a .608 slugging percentage and 1.056 on-base plus slugging percentage. These numbers resulted in Bautista being recognized as the 2011 Silver Slugger Award winner and the 2011 Hank Aaron award winner. Last season he also set a Major League Baseball record in fan voting for the All-Star Game receiving 7,454,753 votes.
Among those to be honoured at the Honda Home Opener will be Dr. Ron Taylor who will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The former Major League pitcher is being recognized for his 35 years of service as a Blue Jays team physician.
Performing both the Canadian and American national anthems will be Army Reserve Officer, 2nd Lieutenant Scott Newlands. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be on hand to present the colours prior to the national anthems.
April 9th will be the debut of the new Blue Jays home white uniforms which feature the new, yet familiar, Blue Jays logo. All fans are encouraged to dress in blue.
Following the game all fans will be presented a 2012 Toronto Blue Jays magnet schedule. Fans across the country can watch the game, including the pre-game ceremonies live on Rogers Sportsnet. The Honda Opening Series continues against the Red Sox on Tuesday April 10th at 7:07pm and Wednesday April 11th at 12:37pm.
