SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres today announced a number of roster moves, finalizing their Opening Day roster. The club today selected outfielder Jeremy Hermida from Triple-A Tucson, placed outfielder Carlos Quentin and infielder/outfielder Mark Kotsay on the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Brad Brach and infielder Everth Cabrera to Triple-A Tucson. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.
Quentin has been placed on the disabled list while recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and Kotsay has been placed on the disabled list (retroactive to April 1) with a right calf strain.
With today’s announcements, the Padres have set their Opening Day 25-man roster. The roster features nine right-handed pitchers, three left-handed pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and five outfielders. Four players are making their first appearance on a Major League team’s Opening Day roster, including Anthony Bass, Yonder Alonso, Jesus Guzman and Andy Parrino.
