NEW YORK -- Pedro Martinez is scheduled to return to pitching -- for the Mets -- on Tuesday, June 3, against the Giants in San Francisco. He is to pitch in a Class A game in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Wednesday and, after five days off, make his second big league start of the season. The club had visions of him returning to the team this week, but Martinez returned to the Dominican Republic last week to be with his seriously ill father, and his schedule was changed.
Martinez started the Mets' second game of the season against the Marlins and strained his left hamstring in the fourth inning. The start against the Giants will be just his seventh since Sept. 26, 2006. He has pitched 32 innings since then and 62 2/3 since June 28 that year.
