Indians announce 2012 Opening Day festivities

CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians are excited to welcome fans to Progressive Field for Opening Day for the 2012 season. This season marks the Tribe’s 112th Opening Day as a charter member of the American League, the 19th Opening Day at beautiful Progressive Field and the 20th straight Opening Day sellout.  The Indians are committed to providing the best fan experience on and off the field and have a number of events planned for Opening Day.

Fans can begin the celebration outside the ballpark with the return of Indians Rally Alley, presented by RTA. Indians Rally Alley will transform Eagle Avenue (directly behind the Time Warner Cable Bleachers) into a downtown street festival featuring live music from Rock and Roll Tribute Band Bon Journey, live performers and discounted food and beverage options including beer, meatball sandwiches, cheese steak sandwiches, regular and foot long hot dogs, combos and Pepsi products. This Opening Day Indians Rally Alley will be the first of fifteen Rally Alley dates for 2012.

The pageantry of Opening Day begins with tributes to our nation’s men and women in the armed services featuring Color Guards from all military branches. In addition, 200 Progressive Insurance employees will lead the traditional unfurling of a giant American flag.

As the Indians join the city of Cleveland in welcoming the United States Marine Corp for Marine week June 11 through 17, we are honored to have more than 20 Marines participate in our Opening Day ceremonies. The U.S. National Anthem will be performed live via satellite by Marine Chief Warrant Officer John Walter from Afghanistan. Pregame ceremonies will commence and the Indians will usher in another season at Progressive Field with two CH53 "Echo" helicopter flyovers and a ceremonial first pitch thrown out by honoree Marine Wounded Warrior, Lance Corporal Bryan Carpenter, of Akron, Ohio, escorted by the Budweiser Clydesdales.

The Canadian National Anthem will be performed by Monica Robins, Health Correspondent for Cleveland’s NBC affiliate WKYC 3.

Gates will open at 1:00PM, and ALL FANS will receive a 2012 Indians Magnet Schedule and Car Magnet, courtesy of Progressive Insurance.

The Indians encourage fans to be in their seats by 2:30PM to enjoy the Opening Day festivities
