HOUSTON, TX — Houston Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow will be the final guest on the club’s popular Astroline call-in radio show tomorrow, March 28 at 7 p.m. CT. Hosted by Hall of Fame Broadcaster Milo Hamilton, Astroline, presented by Budweiser, concludes its broadcasts this spring with its final show at the ESPN Club restaurant at Disney’s Boardwalk in Orlando, Fla.
The show is open to the public and airs on the club’s flagship station, KTRH 740 AM. Listeners can call the show with questions at 713-212-5874. Fans may also send questions to Alyson Footer via Twitter at twitter.com/alysonfooter. Astroline is also streamed live at www.astros.com. Archived broadcasts from this year’s shows are available on the team’s website.
Luhnow, who was named to the general manager post last December, joins the Houston Astros after spending nine seasons (2003-11) with the St. Louis Cardinals, most recently serving as the vice president of scouting and player development. While with St. Louis, he oversaw the Cardinals amateur draft from 2005-11 and his drafts were widely recognized as among the most productive in Major League Baseball. Out of Luhnow’s first three drafts from 2005-07, the Cardinals produced 24 Major Leaguers, which was more than any other club during that span. In his current role with Houston, Luhnow has already made two key trades, acquiring shortstop Jed Lowrie and pitcher Kyle Weiland from Boston in exchange for Mark Melancon and sending catcher Humberto Quintero and outfielder Jason Bourgeois to Kansas City for left-handed pitcher Kevin Chapman and a player to be named later.
Hamilton announced last month that 2012 will be his final season calling Astros games. This season marks his 28th with the Astros and his 59th year broadcasting Major League Baseball. He began his Hall of Fame radio career as a disc jockey on the Armed Forces Radio Network during Thanksgiving week in 1945.
Tomorrow night’s Astroline will be the 18th and final show of its five-month run leading into the 2012 baseball season. The program is broadcast each Wednesday during the offseason at 7 p.m. CT.
Astroline features interviews, news and information on the Houston Astros. The show features a different guest each week, ranging from current and former Astros players to front office personnel.
