SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Jamie Moyer pitched four spotless innings with four strikeouts and Michael Cuddyer hit his first home run of the spring as the Rockies beat the Giants, 7-0, at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on Thursday night.

Moyer, throwing in a Cactus League game for the first time since Mach 11 because he needed time to rest a sore left leg, used just 45 pitches -- 30 of which were strikes. A non-roster invitee, Moyer, 49, is trying to return to the Majors after missing a year and a half because of elbow surgery.

Cuddyer, who signed as a free agent during the winter, knocked a two-run homer off Brian Burres in the third inning. Burres, who started because the Giants used Tim Lincecum in an earlier Minor League game, gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. San Francisco committed three errors behind him.

The Rockies' Marco Scutaro hit leadoff and Dexter Fowler batted second in a switch of duties. Scutaro delivered a two-run double in the second inning and walked twice. Fowler, celebrating his 26th birthday, singled, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored in the fourth.

The Rockies held the Giants without a baserunner until reserve infielder Brendan Harris committed a throwing error on Eli Whiteside's sixth-inning grounder. San Francisco's only hit came in the seventh inning on Pablo Sandoval's double off Ramon Ortiz.

Up next, Rockies: Right-hander Tyler Chatwood, who has pitched well in his bid for a rotation spot, will start against the Cubs at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick at 2:05 p.m. MT on Friday, followed by three key relievers -- Rex Brothers, the primary lefty setup man; righty Edgmer Escalona, a roster hopeful coming off a bad last performance; and lefty Josh Outman, a hard thrower who could help the bullpen. Jeff Samardzija is scheduled to start for the Cubs. Former Rockies closer Manuel Corpas also is scheduled to throw for Chicago.

Up next, Giants: Southpaw Madison Bumgarner (0-1, 2.45 ERA) makes his fifth Cactus League start when the Giants host the Rangers at 7:05 p.m. PT on Friday. Ryan Vogelsong is expected to make his first Cactus League appearance with one inning. Sergio Romo is also expected to pitch an inning after missing more than a week with an elbow issue.
