White Sox, Blackhawks and Bulls partner for charity at second annual HTCR

Three of Chicago's most successful sports franchises again are teaming up to host the second annual “Home Team Charity Run” (HTCR) on Sunday, April 22, 2012.  A portion of proceeds from the race will be shared equally among the respective charities of the Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks and Bulls.

The Home Team Charity Run, which includes both a 5k and10K, will start and finish at U.S. Cellular Field.  A post-run festival will take place on the grounds of U.S. Cellular Field, where runners and guests can enjoy food and beverages as well as performances from local bands, including Chicago singer and songwriter Michael McDermott.  Five hundred randomly selected runners also will have a chance to have their picture taken with the White Sox and Bulls championship trophies and all runners will have the opportunity to get autographs from former players of all three teams.

“Last year’s race was a great success and we are excited to do this again” said Kevin Kennedy, vice president of Flair Communications.  “We received a lot of feedback from the participants last year and have made adjustments to the event that enables us to provide a better route, more race excitement and more prizes.”

The Home Team Charity Run’s new course will allow for runners to have easier access to transportation before and after the race, as well as free parking at the ballpark.  The 10K course will finish on the U.S. Cellular Field warning track, near home plate. The race map can be found on the Home Team Charity Run website (www.hometeamcharityrun.org).

All runners will receive a long sleeve moisture-wicking jersey that is customized with each participating team’s name.  The first place male and female runners in the 10K race each will win four tickets to a White Sox game, including a free parking pass and also will be introduced at the game as the winner of the Home Team Charity Run and have their name and times shown on the centerfield scoreboard.  Winners also will receive a first place Home Team Charity Run trophy.

AthletiCo™ will be providing complimentary injury screens to all staff and race participants at any AthletiCo facility prior to the run, as well as providing stretching and rub downs immediately following the run.  The Dunkin’ Donuts™ Sampling Van also will be at the race giving out free coffee samples to all runners, volunteers and spectators.

The top three male and female runners in each age bracket in the 10K race will win a pair of tickets to attend a Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks and Bulls game (a total of six tickets for three games).  The top five male and female runners in the 5K run/walk will each receive a HTCR plaque recognizing their accomplishment.

Twenty-five percent of all registration fees will go to benefit the charities of the participating home teams. The total raised from the race will be divided equally among all three participating teams.  More than 2,000 runners competed in last year’s race and the goal this year is to raise $100,000 for the teams charities, including Chicago White Sox Charities, which provides annual financial support to hundreds of Chicago-based organizations, including those leading the fight against cancer, dedicated to improving the lives of Chicago's youth through education and athletics, and supporting children and families in crisis.
