I like the way we've started the year. Our pitching has been great, and we're giving a good effort to win every series. If you go in with that mentality, I think that in the long haul, you'll find yourself in some pretty good streaks.
There are a lot of quality teams in our division. A lot of teams are going to beat up on each other, so we've put ourselves in good position with our start.
Most people at the start of the season talked about Cleveland and Detroit, but some of the other teams -- Minnesota and Kansas City -- have performed well, too. The Twins are scrappy, and the Royals are running out three pitchers who are doing a heck of a job for them. There isn't a team in our division that you can take lightly. You have to be ready to go all the time.
The head-to-head matchups against division opponents will likely determine the AL Central winner. That's why all of these series become so important.
I've been impressed by the way young pitchers like John Danks and Gavin Floyd have stepped up. Our pitching staff as a whole has done a tremendous job. You win with pitching, and anytime you get it, you take it and go with it. It has been a great thing for us, and hopefully our offense can catch up to our pitching. Then we can really get going.
Our hitting has come around a bit lately, but it's not quite there yet. You hope that, with our hitters, it's just a matter of time. We have proven hitters who've done the job before, so I have a lot of confidence in our lineup.
Jim Thome, a five-time All-Star who hit his 500th career home run in 2007, is tied for second on the White Sox in long balls so far this year with seven. The veteran left-handed hitter is now in his third season in Chicago.
