Indians and Reds unveil joint Social Suite

The Cleveland Indians, the Cincinnati Reds and the City of Goodyear, Arizona today announce the expansion of the Indians Social Suite to Goodyear Ballpark for two Spring Training games on March 17 and 30. The Goodyear Social Suite will build on each teams’ social media foothold by providing a social media-only space for digitally-engaged Indians and Reds fans. Selected Social Suite attendees can enjoy the game in the comfort of a suite and network with other attendees; all while using social media to talk about their experience.

“The connections forged on social media have become fundamental to our fans’ experience at the ballpark,” said Indians Senior Director of Communications, Curtis Danburg. “We are proud to have such success with our digital media initiatives and honored to have so many passionate fans who engage. It’s truly exciting to expand the Indians Social Suite concept to Goodyear with the Cincinnati Reds and their passionate fan base.”

The original iteration of this unique fan experience, the Indians Social Suite at Progressive Field, became a highly sought after destination for social media savvy Tribe fans; generating nearly 800 applications for 81 games in the 2011 season. The Goodyear initiative marks the first time Indians Social Suite activity has taken place outside of Progressive Field and will become the second-ever social media-only space in professional sports.

“We are always looking for great marketing opportunities that let us showcase our beautiful Spring Training home in Goodyear,” said Lisa Braun,  Reds Director of Digital Marketing and Consumer Clubs. “The Social Suite partnership with the Indians offers the digital media influencers in both of our fan bases a unique way to enjoy Spring Training baseball and share first-hand their experience through engaging, real time platforms.”

Past Indians applicants have included social media passionate fans, bloggers, freelance journalists and local media members who have engaged with the Indians brand through Twitter, Facebook and digital content creation.

“Participants in the Suite will have the opportunity to meet new people at the ballpark, talk digital media and interact with representatives from local media outlets in the Goodyear and Phoenix area,” said Goodyear Ballpark’s Marketing & Digital Media Coordinator, Crystal Workman. “This is an inventive way to expand our reach and provides a great opportunity for our fans to interact together online and offline.”
