Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation Storybook Series features Grace Lin tomorrow

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will host award–winning children’s author and illustrator Grace Lin as part of its Storybook Series tomorrow Thursday, March 8, 2012.

Grace has written and illustrated over a dozen picture books, early readers and middle grade novels that typically deal with the Asian American experience and tall tales from Grace’s childhood. Ms. Lin’s 2010 Newbery Honor book, WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON was chosen for Al Roker’s Today Show Kid’s Book Club and was a NY Times Bestseller. LING & TING, Grace’s first early reader, was honored with the Theodor Geisel Honor in 2011.

Noting the importance of literature Grace comments, “Books erase bias, they make the uncommon every day, and the mundane exotic. A book makes all cultures universal.”

On the morning of March 8 Grace will visit 250 students at Burgin and Williams Elementary schools in the Arlington School District to promote literacy. Later that evening, Ms. Lin will be available for a free event for children and their families in the Diamond Club at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. During the night event the audience will learn more about Grace and hear fun stories about her two sisters and her dreams of becoming an ice skater before she became an author.

The mission of the Storybook Series is to promote a love for reading by creating opportunities for young readers to meet some of the world’s best authors and illustrators each month during the academic school year. The Storybook Series is presented in part by Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, Storyopolis Entertainment, JCPenney, the Arlington Chamber Foundation, and the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau.
