Torn ACL sidelines Sizemore for 2012 season

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland Athletics today announced third baseman Scott Sizemore has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear to his left knee and will be lost for the 2012 season.

Sizemore, who batted .249 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI in 93 games last year, sustained the injury in the team’s first full-squad workout Saturday.   He underwent a MRI test this morning and results were examined by Dr. Douglas Freedberg of the Arizona Sports Medicine Center of Scottsdale this afternoon.

Due to swelling and range of motion, Sizemore will be reevaluated in two weeks to determine when a surgery date can be set.
