Former Astro Kevin Bass this week's Astroline guest

HOUSTON, TX — Former Astros outfielder Kevin Bass will be Thursday night’s guest on the club’s popular Astroline call-in radio show at 7 p.m. Hosted by Hall of Fame Broadcaster Milo Hamilton, Astroline, presented by Budweiser, is broadcast live from Buffalo Wild Wings at 510 Gray Street. The show has been moved to Thursday for this week from it’s normal Wednesday slot.

The show is open to the public and airs on the club’s flagship station, KTRH 740 AM. Listeners can call the show with questions at 713-212-5874. Astros Social Media Senior Director Alyson Footer is at Spring Training this week and will not be fielding questions via twitter, but will return to the show next week.  Astroline is streamed live at Archived broadcasts from this season are also available on the team’s website.

Bass was a popular player in Houston during his 10 seasons with the Astros (1982-89, ‘93-94), and is best remembered for playing an instrumental role in the success of the 1986 Western Division championship club. Bass was an NL All-Star that season, hitting . 311 with 33 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs, 79 RBI and 22 stolen bases. The following season, he hit 19 home runs with a career-high 85 RBI. Overall, Bass hit .270 in 14 Major League seasons (1982-95) with 118 home runs, 611 RBI and 151 stolen bases. In addition to the Astros, he also played for the Brewers, Giants, Mets and Orioles.

Hamilton announced earlier this month that the upcoming season would be his final one calling Astros games.  The 2012 season will be his 28th with the Astros and his 59th year broadcasting Major League Baseball. He began his Hall of Fame radio career as a disc jockey on the Armed Forces Radio Network during Thanksgiving week in 1945.

Thursday night’s Astroline will be the 13th of 18 scheduled shows during its five-month run leading into the 2012 baseball season. Next week, Astroline will move to Florida, where it will broadcast live from the ESPN Club restaurant, located at the Disney Boardwalk. The first of five broadcasts from Florida will be on Feb. 29. Astros manager Brad Mills is the scheduled guest.
