Red Sox begin Spring Training workouts on Tuesday, Feb. 21

FORT MYERS, FL — The Boston Red Sox open camp at Fenway South, the team’s new 106-acre Spring Training and Player Development Complex, TOMORROW, Tuesday, February 21 when 34 pitchers and six catchers will participate in the team’s first official workout. The clubhouse will be open to media holding proper credentials from 8:00-9:00 a.m.


All workouts from February 21-March 2 will take place at the Fenway South Player Development Complex, which is located at 11581 Daniels Parkway in Fort Myers. On most days the workouts will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m.  Any changes to that start time will be announced.


Following tomorrow’s workout, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine and right-handed pitcher Daniel Bard will be available to the media at the bench in front of the Red Sox clubhouse. 


Fans are invited to attend the workouts free of charge and may enter the complex through the West Gate beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Additionally, tours of JetBlue Park are also available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cost five dollars per person. Tickets for tours may be purchased from the JetBlue Park box office.  Concessions and merchandise will be on sale during these workouts.


The team’s first full-squad workout is scheduled for Saturday, February 25. The Red Sox will have 64 players in Major League camp with 13 infielders and 11 outfielders joining the pitchers and catchers.


DIRECTIONS TO FENWAY SOUTH: From the North: Take I-75 South to Exit 131 (Daniels Parkway).  Make a left off the exit and go east for approximately two miles.  Fenway South will be on your left.  From the South: Take I-75 North to Exit 131 (Daniels Parkway).  Make a right off exit and go east  for approximately two miles.  Fenway South will be on your left.
