Marlins Set To Launch Caravan For The Community 2012

MIAMI, Fla. – With the inaugural Opening Night at Marlins Park less than two months away, the Team is more than ever reinforcing its community efforts throughout South Florida. The Miami Marlins will kick off its Marlins Ayudan Caravan for the Community starting Monday, February 13 and continuing through Sunday, February 19.

Marlins Ayudan or the “blue shirts” is a collaborative front office volunteer program that provides permanent enhancements to the community. Marlins Ayudan Caravan for the Community will engage the community through a school beautification project with City Year, a fishing tournament with local veterans from the Red Cross at Shake-A-Leg in Miami, and a visit to Miami Children’s Hospital on Valentine’s Day. Miami Marlins players will also host a field day for the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County and the Boys and Girls Club of Dade County, adopt a Firehouse in Miami and compete in a game of Family Feud against teachers from Miami Central High School.

The week will also be highlighted by one of the Marlins’ most popular annual events and fundraisers, the Jiffy Lube and Mercedes-Benz of Fort Lauderdale Marlins Celebrity Golf Classic on Thursday, February 16 at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club. This elite event will feature key local figures, sports legends, current Marlins players and alumni, and more.  Proceeds benefit the Miracle League of Miami Dade County, a Charity Partner of the Miami Marlins.

In addition to the various community endeavors during Caravan, Marlins players, coaches and executives will be making appearances at several South Florida events throughout the week, including the Miami International Boat Show, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, the Humane Society of Greater Miami Walk for the Animals, the Premios Lo Nuestro Awards Show, a Miami Heat game and a Florida Panthers game.
