Mortensen posted a 3.86 ERA (25 ER/58.1 IP) and 30 strikeouts while going 2-4 over a career-high 16 appearances, including six starts, over two stints with the Rockies in 2011. The 26-year-old right-hander held opponents to a .257 average (55-for-214) last season, including a .240 mark (30-for-125) against right-handed hitters. He also made 15 starts with Triple-A Colorado Springs in 2011. A supplemental first-round selection by St. Louis in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, the right-hander has appeared in 24 Major League games (13 starts) with the Cardinals (2009), Athletics (2009-10) and Rockies (2011), going 4-8 with a 5.12 ERA (54 ER/95.0 IP) and 50 strikeouts.
Scutaro, 36, hit .299 (118-for-395) with 26 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 59 runs, 54 RBI and 38 walks for Boston last season. He started 102 games at shortstop (109 total games) and two games at second base. Signed as a free agent by Boston on December 4, 2009, the right-handed hitter owns a career .270 average (1,019-for-3,768) with 214 doubles, 14 triples, 68 home runs, 538 runs and 404 RBI in 1,103 Major League games with the Mets (2002-03), Athletics (2004-07), Blue Jays (2008-09) and Red Sox (2010-11).
