ST. LOUIS, Mo., January 6, 2012 –The St. Louis Cardinals today announced several changes and promotions within the team’s Baseball Operations and International departments.
The Cardinals have hired St. Louis native Dan Kantrovitz to serve as Director of Scouting and Matt Slater has been promoted to Director of Player Personnel.
Kantrovitz, who was drafted by the Cardinals in 2001 out of Brown University, was a member of the Cardinals front office from 2004 to 2008, where he held the title of Director of College Scouting. He joined the Oakland Athletics in 2009, most recently serving as Coordinator of International Operations/Baseball Operations Analyst. Kantrovitz, 33, holds a master’s degree in statistics from Harvard University.
Slater joined the Cardinals organization in 2007 and has held the title of Special Assistant to the General Manager. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native is a veteran of 21 years in professional baseball, having also worked in scouting and player development for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers.
The team also announced promotions for Tony Ferreira to Baseball Operations Assistant/Player Development and Jared Odom to Baseball Operations Assistant/Scouting. Cesar Geronimo, Jr., son of former Cincinnati Reds standout Cesar Geronimo, has been hired as International Scouting Cross Checker and Angel Ovalles has been appointed Dominican Republic Scouting Supervisor. The team also anticipates the addition of Luis Morales as Baseball Operations Assistant/International.
