Indians invite RHP Robinson Tejada to Major League Camp

CLEVELAND, OH  -  The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent RHP ROBINSON TEJEDA to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training camp.

Tejeda, 29, owns a career Major League record of 23-27 with a 4.42 ERA in 186 games/53 starts (442.0IP, 397H, 217ER, 246BB, 371K) over seven Major League seasons with Philadelphia, Texas and Kansas City since debuting in 2005.  Since 2008 he has spent the last four years in the KC Royals organization where he posted a combined ERA of 3.57 (181.1IP, 132H, 72ER, 98BB, 186K) in 123 outings.  He posted consecutive seasons with a 3.54 ERA in 2009 and 2010 and his .167 (43-257, 4HR) average against in 2009 was the third lowest total in MLB among pitchers with at least 70.0IP.  His 10.63 strikeouts per 9.0IP that same season (73.2IP, 87K) was the 2nd best mark in the history of the Royals franchise.  In his career right-handed batters own a batting average of .221 (190-861).

Tejeda (tuh-HAY-duh) split 2011 between Kansas City and Triple-A Omaha and spent five weeks on the disabled list in April/May with right shoulder inflammation.  In nine relief outings with KC he posted an ERA of 6.14 (7.1IP, 12H, 5R/ER) before finishing the season healthy at Omaha where he posted an ERA of 3.80 (31G, 45.0IP, 40H, 19ER, 43K).
