Tigers to play Toledo in exhibition game at Fifth Third Field

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced the club will play Triple A Toledo in an exhibition game at Fifth Third Field on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. First pitch for the exhibition game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

The game will mark the first exhibition game between the Tigers and Mud Hens since June 1, 2000, when the two clubs met at Ned Skeldon Stadium in Maumee, OH. The Mud Hens moved into Fifth Third Field in Downtown Toledo at the beginning of the 2002 season.

“We have a tremendous long-standing relationship with the Toledo Mud Hens,” Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski said. “This exhibition game gives Mud Hens fans an opportunity to see the Tigers at Fifth Third Field, which is one of the finest ballparks in all of minor league baseball.”

All proceeds from the exhibition game between the Tigers and Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field will be split between the Detroit Tigers Foundation and the Helping Hens Charitable Fund.

Detroit’s Triple A affiliate since the 1987 season, Toledo won the International League championship in both 2005 and 2006. Additionally, the Mud Hens captured the league’s West Division crown in both 2002 and 2007.

The Tigers open the 2012 regular season on Thursday, April 5 versus the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park. First pitch of the club’s season opener that afternoon is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
