Royals announce 2012 Spring Training Schedule

KANSAS CITY, MO (November 30, 2011) — The Kansas City Royals have announced their 2012 Spring Training schedule.  The club will open its tenth season in the Cactus League as the visiting team against its Surprise complex mates, the Texas Rangers, on Sunday, March 4.  

Kansas City's 31-game Spring Training schedule features 15 home games at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Ariz., plus the March 4 opener, a 1:05 p.m. (CT) start.  Day games from March 5 to 10 will start at 2:05 p.m. (CT) until Daylight Saving Time on March 11 when the games will begin at 3:05 p.m. (CT). The Royals will host a pair of evening games at 8:05 p.m. (CT), first on March 28 vs. Texas, then on March 30 vs. the Chicago White Sox.  In addition, the Royals will play night games in Peoria at 9:05 p.m. (CT) on March 14 against the Seattle Mariners and on March 17 against the San Diego Padres.   The March 24 game in Scottsdale against the Arizona Diamondbacks will start at 8:40 p.m. (CT).

The Royals will conclude the 2012 Spring Training schedule by traveling to California for a pair of exhibition games against the Padres.  The clubs will play at PETCO Park in San Diego on Tuesday, April 3 at 9:05 p.m. (CT) and then travel on Wednesday, April 4 to Lake Elsinore, home of the Padres’ California League affiliate, for at 4:05 p.m. (CT) contest.  Kansas City will not play on Thursday, April 5 before opening the season at Angel Stadium on Friday, April 6 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The Royals will once again offer fans a variety of Spring Training travel packages.  The Early Spring Training Special (March 16-18 or March 23-25) includes game tickets, hotel accommodations, car rental, and a Royals travel bag with a cap and t-shirt. Pitchers and catchers will report to Surprise on Monday, February 20.  Workouts for pitchers begin the following day, Tuesday, February 21.  The remainder of the squad will report on Friday, February 24 and begin workouts for the 2012 campaign on Saturday, February 25.
