KANSAS CITY, MO (November 30, 2011) – The Kansas City Royals will reach out to area families in need this holiday season by volunteering for the Johnson County Christmas Bureau on Friday, December 2.
Pitcher Aaron Crow and outfielder Alex Gordon will join Royals associates in distributing food, winter clothing and holiday gifts from 2-4 p.m. at the Johnson County Christmas Bureau Holiday Shop, located at the former Steve and Barry’s store in the Great Mall of the Great Plains (20050 West 151st Street in Olathe, Kan.).
The Johnson County Christmas Bureau is a volunteer, non-profit organization and United Way agency created in 1960 that provides necessary assistance to low-income families of Johnson County, Kansas.
The organization’s Holiday Shop, established in 1977, is open each year during the first week in December at a donated location in Johnson County. Qualified low-income individuals are scheduled by appointment and assisted by a volunteer in selecting groceries, toys, gifts, personal care items and clothing for their families. All merchandise provided is new with the exception of gently-worn coats and books. More than 3,000 families were served by the Holiday Shop in 2010.
