Indians Invite CA Michael Hernandez to Major League Camp

The Cleveland Indians today announced the signing of CA MICHEL HERNANDEZ to a free agent Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training camp.

Hernandez, 33, was signed by Cleveland as a free agent on July 1 of last season and split the remainder of the season between AA Akron and AAA Columbus where he hit a combined .320 (39-122) with 10 doubles, 2HR & 26RBI in 39 games. He owns a 14-year Minor League career average of .263 (807-3071) with 132 2B, 37HR & 340 RB in 970 games since signing with the New York Yankees in 1998 after defecting from Cuba two years earlier. He appeared in 5 games with the Yankees at the Major League level in 2003 and appeared in 40 games with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008-09. In 45 Major League games he owns an average of .237 (28-118).
