OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's traded right-handed pitcher Trystan Magnuson to the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations, the club announced today. The A's also announced that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Edgar Gonzalez and infielder Wes Timmons on minor league contracts for the 2012 season and will invite them to Spring Training as non-roster invitees.
Magnuson made his Major League debut with the A's in 2011 and had no decisions and a 6.14 ERA in nine relief appearances over three stints with Oakland. He allowed a season-high six runs May 19 against Minnesota during his first stay with the club but posted a 3.09 ERA in seven appearances over his final two stints. Magnuson was placed on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 18 with right shoulder tendinitis, missing the remainder of the season. He also went 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA and .210 opponents batting average in 30 relief appearances with Triple-A Sacramento. The 26-year-old right-hander was acquired by the A's following the 2010 season in the Rajai Davis trade with Toronto. He was designated for assignment on Wednesday.
Gonzalez began the 2011 season with Triple-A Durham in the Tampa Bay organization and was 3-3 with a 4.56 ERA in 11 starts before he was released June 7. He signed a minor league deal with Triple-A Colorado Springs and went 5-3 with a 5.29 ERA in 15 games, 14 starts, for the Sky Sox. Gonzalez also made one appearance with Colorado Aug. 14 at St. Louis, allowing two runs on five hits in 2.0 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander has pitched for three teams in eight Major League seasons, including Arizona (2003-08), Oakland (2009) and the Rockies (2011). He is 14-25 with a 5.90 ERA in 107 career appearances, 41 starts.
Timmons spent last year in the A's farm system, batting a combined .341 with eight home runs and 62 RBI in 95 games with Triple-A Sacramento and Double-A Midland. He added 38 walks and was hit by a pitch 11 times for a .420 on-base percentage. The 33-year-old right-handed hitter was originally selected by Atlanta in the 12th round of the First-Year Player Draft and signed a minor league deal with the A's Nov. 16, 2010.
