Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today that left-handed pitcher Anthony Vasquez has been outrighted to AAA Tacoma.
With this roster move, the Mariners 40-man roster is currently at 35 players. Since Vasquez has not been previously been outrighted to the minors and has less than three years of Major League service, he must accept the assignment.
Vasquez, 25, made 7 starts for the Mariners in 2011, going 1-6 with an 8.90 ERA (29 ER, 29.1 IP). He was one of four Mariners rookie starting pitchers last season, and one of 12 Mariners to make their Major League debut. The left-hander combined to go 9-10 with a 3.57 ERA (61 ER, 153.2 IP) in 24 starts with AA Jackson and AAA Tacoma. He was originally selected in the 18th round of the 2009 June draft out of the University of Southern California.
