PITTSBURGH -- Pirates pitching prospect Gerrit Cole has been selected as the starting pitcher for the East Division All-Stars who will face the West Division club in Saturday's Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Game.
Joining Cole on the East squad will be Pirates outfield prospect Robbie Grossman, who currently leads the AFL with 32 hits.
The game will be played at 8:10 p.m. ET on Saturday and will be televised by MLB Network and online at MLB.com.
Cole, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, is 2-0 in four starts for the Mesa Solar Sox. Since allowing three earned runs in his 2 1/3-inning professional debut, Cole has limited opponents to one earned run on five hits in 9 2/3 innings. Overall, the right-hander has struck out 12 and walked three.
Grossman has been one of the offensive stars in the AFL season so far, hitting .372 with an AFL-best six homers. The former sixth-round pick has driven in 19, scored 15 runs and swiped four bases in 22 games.
After the interruption for the Rising Stars Game, the AFL season will continue through Nov. 17.
