Major League Baseball will host a showcase for top Dominican prospects on November 2-3rd at the Pirates Dominican Academy in La Laguna, Boca Chica. The showcase, which will have baseball executives from all 30 Clubs in attendance, is the first of a series of events that will take place in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela during the coming months.
Prior to the showcase, the prospects will participate in an orientation program on November 1st. Among those who will be on hand to provide advice to the prospects are Kim Ng, MLB's Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations; Lou Melendez, Vice President of International Baseball Operations; Rafael Perez, Director of Dominican Operations; Omar Minaya, former General Manager of the New York Mets and Montreal Expos; and Ubaldo Jimenez, pitcher for the Cleveland Indians. The orientation will help to educate the prospects on important matters such as the signing process and the dangers and consequences of the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
The showcase will feature two teams comprised of the country's top July 2, 2012 eligible players, invited from a pool of over 200 players who participated in previous workouts held throughout the country. The players will engage in pro-style workouts with games over the course of two days.
