Brewers to extend netting behind home plate

The Milwaukee Brewers are joining a league-wide effort to extend the protective netting behind home plate.

The club announced Friday morning it plans to "significantly extend" the netting on the field level at Miller Park ahead of the 2018 season.

The netting at the Brewers' home park was extended following the 2015 season to the inside edge of both dugouts. That is the current standard set by Major League Baseball. However, following an incident at Yankee Stadium earlier this season -- in which a young fan was struck by a foul ball -- Milwaukee is taking the step many teams around the league are carrying out.

The club said in a statement it is "currently working with engineers and vendors on specifics related to the project."

The new netting set to be installed will extend to the outer portions of each dugout.
