Brewers prospects steady for Javelinas
Thanks to the steady hitting of a Brewers' duo and two-run homers from a pair of Mariners and Mets farmhands, the Peoria Javelinas outlasted the Mesa Solar Sox, 6-2, in AFL action Wednesday afternoon.

Peoria (4-4) evened its record while Mesa (1-7) failed to follow up its first win Tuesday.

Javelinas shortstop Nick Franklin plated the game's first runs when he smacked the first offering he saw from Steve Johnson (Orioles) for a two-run homer in the second. Franklin, Seattle's top prospect, entered play 1-for-11 in his first four AFL games.

After the Solar Sox scored twice in the bottom of the second, the Javelinas picked up the pace in the fourth and fifth opposing reliever Bruce Pugh (Twins), who was tagged with his first loss. Kentrail Davis (Brewers) tripled home Zelous Wheeler (Brewers) and Juan Lagares (Mets) plated Scooter Gennett (Brewers) with a two-run homer.

Gennett and Davis, Milwaukee's No. 4 and 6 prospects respectively, went a combined 5-for-8 at the plate. Gennett is batting .421 through four AFL games.

Javelinas starter Anthony Bass (Padres) allowed two runs on three hits over four innings. Bass (1-0) threw 58 pitches.

Relievers Robert Carson (Mets), Jeff Ibarra (Padres), Brian Moran (Mariners) and Keith Butler (Cardinals) ended the game with five innings of one-hit ball.

Johnson yielded five hits -- Franklin's long ball among them -- over three innings. He threw 51 pitches.
