Benintendi named AL's top rookie for August

The Red Sox went 18-9 during the month of August, the best record in Major League Baseball. A big reason for that success was left fielder Andrew Benintendi, who won American League Rookie of the Month honors on Sunday.

Benintendi hit .333 (34-for-102) with six home runs and 19 RBIs during the month. He had multiple hits in 11 of the 26 games in which he played.

It all started on Aug. 3 against the White Sox, when Benintendi went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. He finished the month going 2-for-5 with an RBI against the Yankees on Thursday.

The 22-year-old did most of his damage during the month against the Yankees. In seven games against New York, he went 10-for-32 with three home runs and 11 RBIs.

His best game of the month came on Aug. 12 against the Yankees, when he went 2-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs. Both were three-run shots.
