Cristian Guzman and Lastings Milledge both hit RBI doubles in the fifth inning. Milledge had a potential three-run seventh-inning homer robbed by Joe Borchard's leaping catch at the left-field wall.
Braves at the plate:
Mark Teixeira, who entered the game with a .188 batting average, enjoyed a two-hit day that included a double and a two-run fourth-inning homer. Mark Kotsay, who began the day hitting .220, also contributed a double.
Nationals on the mound:
Showing off his new delivery which has increased his velocity, Matt Chico allowed the Braves five earned runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Braves on the mound:
Starter Jeff Bennett, who will likely begin the season in the bullpen, limited the Nationals to one hit over four scoreless innings. Working back-to-back days for the first time this spring, closer Rafael Soriano issued one walk and completed a scoreless inning.
