TUCSON, Ariz. -- Doug Slaten took the mound in a Cactus League game for the first time Monday and worked a scoreless inning as he remains on track to start the season on the roster.
Slaten, who had microfracture surgery on his right knee after last season, got tested right off the bat when the first hitter he faced, Rajai Davis, dropped down a bunt. Slaten fielded the bunt and threw Davis out.
"I think he wanted to test me," Slaten said with a smile. "I kind of went after it slowly and took my time with it, but it was good that everything felt fine. I felt good."
Slaten is expected to be the club's lone lefty in the bullpen. Last year, he appeared in 61 games and compiled a 3.72 ERA.
