D-backs option three, reassign one

TUCSON - The D-backs trimmed their spring roster by four more players Sunday, optioning infielder Emilio Bonifacio, catcher Wilkin Castillo and right-handed pitcher Emiliano Fruto and reassigning outfielder Tim Raines Jr.

All the players saw action in Sunday's win over the White Sox, with Bonifacio lacing a pinch-hit single in the seventh and scoring the winning run while Fruto pitched a scoreless eighth inning to help secure the victory.

Bonifacio played in 14 Cactus League games, hitting .237 (9-for-38) with seven RBIs and four extra-base hits. The 22-year-old second baseman made the leap from Double-A Mobile in '07 to a September call up during the D-backs' pennant chase, hitting .217 in 23 big league at-bats.

Fruto had a solid spring, pitching eight innings in five games and posting a 2.57 ERA while walking three and striking out five. The 23-year-old pitched in last year's All-Star Futures Game for the Nationals before coming to Arizona in an August trade and finishing the season at Triple-A Tucson.

Castillo hit .211 in 14 Cactus League games, going 4-for-19 with three RBIs. The 23-year-old spent last season at Mobile, hitting .302 with six home runs and 46 RBIs in 109 games as the club's primary catcher. He also started 19 games at second base, 10 at shortstop, and five at third.

The 28-year-old Raines hit .150 (3-for-20) in 15 spring games. He came to camp as a non-roster invitee, and he has 75 big league games under his belt from three different seasons with the Orioles. He has not been back to the Majors since 2004. The outfielder hit .333 in 100 games for Triple-A Round Rock in the Astros organization last year, knocking 11 homers and swiping 21 bags.
