Kotchman sits with minor leg injury

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Casey Kotchman has a wrap on his right leg after taking seven stitches in the shin, the result of a slide into home plate on Monday against the A's.

"It's just a cut," Kotchman said after taking infield and batting practice on Wednesday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. "I came in with my [left] leg first, and my right leg got spiked or caught on the [catcher's] shin guard.

"If it was during the [regular] season, I'd have played yesterday. I'm taking it easy running around now since there's no reason to push it. If you don't have to jar it, there's no reason to do that."

Kotchman said he expects to be back in the lineup "in the next day or two." The Angels face the Royals in Surprise on Thursday and travel to Mesa on Friday to face the Cubs.

"He'll get a couple of workouts in, and we'll see tomorrow or the next day about getting him back out there," manager Mike Scioscia said.

Kotchman is hitting .316 in Cactus League play with two doubles and three RBIs in seven games.

Kendry Morales, the club's switch-hitting backup at first, is in the midst of a big spring. Coming into Wednesday's game against the Royals, Morales was batting .375 with two homers and six RBIs in 11 games.
