Wednesday, March 12 Red Sox at the plate: Manny Ramirez doubled in a run in the first inning and Jason Varitek belted his second homer of the spring, a solo shot deep to right, in the second. David Ortiz went 2-for-3 at the plate, including an RBI double in the third. A three-run fifth inning was highlighted by a sacrifice fly by J.D. Drew and an RBI single from Varitek. Catcher Kevin Cash hit a three-run homer over the center-field wall in the seventh.
Twins at the plate: Joe Mauer belted his first home run of the spring in the fifth inning, a solo shot over the right-field fence. It came after Mauer and Michael Cuddyer hit back-to-back doubles in the fourth to score the first Twins run. Brendan Harris delivered an RBI single to right later in the fourth and hit a two-run homer -- his first of the spring -- in the sixth.
Up next for the Twins: Nick Blackburn, who is competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, makes his first official start of the spring on Thursday. The Twins will make their first of two trips this spring to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to take on the Orioles in a 12:05 p.m. CT contest.
