Jimenez, four homers propel Rockies

|
ROCKIES 6, ANGELS (SS) 2
at Tucson, Ariz.
Saturday, March 8

Angels at the plate: Left fielder Juan Rivera was 2-for-3, the only Angel to record a multi-hit game. Minor League outfielder Brad Coon, called up just for Saturday's game, had an RBI double in the seventh inning, driving in Peter Bourjos.

Rockies at the plate: Matt Holliday hit a line drive two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning, his second homer of the spring. Marcus Giles legged out a standup triple in the bottom of the fourth and was brought home on the next pitch by pinch-hitter Ryan Spilborghs, who hit a double off the left-field wall. Brad Hawpe and Yorvit Torrealba hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth, and Sean Barker hit a solo shot in the seventh.

Angels on the mound: Angels starter Dustin Moseley allowed two eared runs, both off a first-inning Holliday home run, in two innings. Moseley surrendered two hits and a walk and struck out three. Relievers Nick Green and Alex Serrano were roughed up. Green allowed one earned run, three hits and a pair of walks in two innings, while Serrano allowed two earned runs, two hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings.

Rockies on the mound: No. 3 starter Ubaldo Jimenez cruised through four innings. Jimenez allowed three hits, no walks and no runs while striking out three. Brian Fuentes pitched a scoreless fifth inning. Victor Zambrano allowed five hits, two walks and two earned runs, including a no-doubt home run in the seventh, his only inning of work.

Cactus League records: Angels 5-4-2; Rockies 5-5-1.

Up next: Colorado travels to Scottsdale, Ariz., on Sunday to play National League West foe San Francisco. Franklin Morales is the scheduled starter after Jason Hirsh was scratched with a sore shoulder, making it two consecutive starts the 26-year-old right-hander will miss. For the Giants, lefty Patrick Misch will see action for the fourth time this spring.
