Perkins in command early against Jays

Blue Jays at the plate: Adam Lind went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double. Gregg Zaun went 1-for-3.

Twins at the plate: Carlos Gomez went 2-for-4 with a single and a run-scoring triple. The speedster also stole his third base of the spring and scored two runs. Randy Ruiz went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, his second of the spring. Adam Everett went 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

Blue Jays on the mound: A.J. Burnett started off a bit rough, but quickly found his rhythm as the right-hander allowed one run on four hits over three innings. Burnett, who has been dealing with a right index fingernail issue, did not use a curveball, but was effective using the changeup. He had one strikeout while tossing 38 pitches, 27 strikes, which included 11 of 12 first-pitch strikes. Scott Downs gave up two hits and had one strikeout in one scoreless inning. Brandon League pitched one perfect inning.

Twins on the mound: Glen Perkins pitched effectively and allowed two hits and one walk with three strikeouts over three scoreless innings. Phil Humber, who was a part of the Johan Santana deal, allowed just one hit and had three strikeouts in two scoreless innings.

Grapefruit League records: Blue Jays 2-6; Twins 2-6.

Up next: The Blue Jays meet the Tigers at Knology Park on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. ET for the third spring meeting between the two teams. Right-hander Shaun Marcum will make the start for Toronto, while Detroit will counter with righty Jeremy Bonderman.

The Twins travel to Bradenton to face the Pirates for the first time this spring on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. ET. Right-hander Scott Baker makes his second start of Spring Training and will face Pittsburgh righty Matt Morris.
