Diamondbacks at the plate: Chris Burke had a run-scoring double and Orlando Hudson a two-run single in a three-run second inning. Burke got a second double and Chris Snyder had two hits including a double. Snyder is 8-for-13 (.615) with four doubles and two home runs.
Royals at the plate: Ryan Shealy smashed a home run to left field on Jailen Peguero's first pitch of the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Billy Butler belted a home run over the center-field wall and had two singles, boosting his average to .386 (7-for-19). Ross Gload had two singles and is batting .500 (7-for-14) including a home run.
Diamondbacks on the mound: Dan Haren worked three scoreless innings with three strikeouts, a walk and two singles. Two runs off Emiliano Fruto in the fourth were unearned because of his own error. Hector Ambriz was the victim of Butler's leadoff homer in the seventh.
Royals on the mound: No. 3 starter Zack Greinke was tagged for three runs in the second inning on four hits and a walk. Closer Joakim Soria followed with two scoreless innings and struck out three. Leo Nunez also threw two scoreless innings.
Cactus League records: Royals 5-3, Diamondbacks 4-4.
Up next: Second baseman Mark Grudzielanek is scheduled to make his spring debut in Friday's 2:05 p.m. CT game against the Colorado Rockies at Surprise Stadium. The Royals will start Brian Bannister; the Rockies' starter is Aaron Cook.
The Diamondbacks have split-squad games at 1:05 p.m. MT. They'll play the Chicago White Sox at Tucson Electric Park, starting Edgar Gonzalez against Nick Masset. The other squad will meet the San Diego Padres at Peoria Stadium with Doug Davis matched against Chris Young.
