Nats play to tie with Marlins in opener

Marlins at the plate: Mike Jacobs blasted a two-run homer in the sixth inning off Rob Bell. Alfredo Amezaga, who singled to open the inning, also scored on the shot to right field. Josh Willingham went 2-for-2, including a double. Luis Gonzalez's soft groundout drove in a run in the fourth inning.

Nationals at the plate: In the fourth inning, Lastings Milledge singled, stole second and scored on Alex Escobar's sacrifice fly. Elijah Dukes doubled in fourth, but was denied an RBI when Wily Mo Pena was thrown out at the plate. Milledge added a double in the sixth inning and scored on Pena's double. In the ninth, Pete Orr's infield single with the bases loaded tied the game at 3.

Marlins on the mound: Lefty Scott Olsen tossed two scoreless innings and settled in after issuing successive singles to open the first inning. Olsen struck out one and hit a batter on 25 pitches (16 strikes). Kevin Gregg threw a perfect third inning.

Nationals on the mound: Starter Matt Chico gave up one hit in two scoreless innings, while striking out two and walking one. The lefty threw 32 pitches, with 16 strikes. Garrett Mock gave up two hits and one unearned run in two innings.

Grapefruit League records: Marlins 0-0-1, Nationals 0-0-1.

Up next: Florida travels to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Thursday to face the Orioles at 1:05 p.m. ET. Sergio Mitre starts for the Marlins, while Adam Loewen goes for Baltimore. The Nationals, meanwhile, face Georgetown on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in Viera. Jason Bergmann takes the hill for Washington.
