"We'll have an executive officer meeting [Tuesday] at noon," Brenham head coach Jim Long said. "We'll have an answer at 3."
Clemens is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a Jan. 12 convention, and the topic of the speech is, "My vigorous workout: How I played so long [in professional baseball]."
In the wake of the recently released Mitchell Report, which identified Clemens as having used anabolic steroids, the THSBCA appears to be having second thoughts about the seven-time Cy Young Award winner delivering a speech at the convention.
"I'm not saying which way we're leaning," Long said. "We're trying to do it professionally and do what's best for the program. Obviously, there's a black cloud over Roger right now, but I'm not going to jump on any bandwagon and say he's guilty, like the media is saying. He's done a lot for Texas baseball, and we think very highly of him."
Long is in the process of attempting to contact Clemens through Clemens' agents.
"We're trying to get in contact with him directly," Long said. "We think we owe that to him."
