McMahon recorded multiple hits for a second straight game on Thursday, going 3-for-4 with his sixth home run and a double for Double-A Hartford. The 22-year-old third baseman is putting together a strong season in his second tour of the Eastern League, as he enters Friday's contest with a .325/.391/.546 batting line and a vastly improved 18-to-35 walk-to-strikeout ratio through 44 games.
Burnes, 22, has yet to lose a game in his first full professional season, going 4-0 in nine starts for Class A Advanced Carolina. What's more, the 2016 fourth-rounder is leading all Carolina League hurlers in ERA (1.00) and WHIP (0.93), and he's limited opposing hitters to a .189 average while striking out 50 in 54 innings.
Young pitched great early in the season, posting a 1.82 ERA in his first five starts totaling 24 2/3 innings for Double-A Jackson. The 23-year-old lefty hasn't fared well lately, however, as he's pitched to a 6.35 ERA over his last 17 innings (three starts) while allowing an .800 opponents' OPS in that span. Overall, he's 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA in 41 2/3 innings (eight starts).
Gunkel, 25, is set to make his fourth start for Jacksonville since being claimed off waivers in late April from the Dodgers. The right-hander worked a total of 12 2/3 innings in his three previous turns, during which he posted a 2.84 ERA.
