Pipeline Preview: Burnes looks to extend scoreless streak

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:

Hitter to watch: Rio Ruiz (Braves' No. 22), Gwinnett at Norfolk (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)

Ruiz earned a spot on the latest installment of MLB Pipeline's Prospect Team of the Week after he hit .393 with six extra-base hits in seven games from May 8-14. The 22-year-old third baseman continued to swing a hot bat for Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a double. He's now raised his average 43 points -- from .228 to .271 -- in his last eight games.

Pitcher to watch: Corbin Burnes (Brewers' No. 20), Carolina vs. Down East (7 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)

Burnes has not allowed an earned run in four of his seven starts this season, including two straight outings heading into Tuesday. The 2016 fourth-rounder's 1.13 ERA ranks second in the Carolina League, and he's held opposing hitters to a paltry .182 average while punching out 35 in 40 innings.

Duel of the day: Brent Honeywell (Rays' No. 2) vs. Reynaldo Lopez (White Sox No. 4), Durham at Charlotte (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)

Honeywell, ranked 26th on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list, established a pair of Triple-A highs when he struck out 10 batters in six innings in his last start for Durham. The 22-year-old righty owns a 4.05 ERA through five starts, with 32 strikeouts and five walks in 26 2/3 innings. For the season, Honeywell has compiled 52 strikeouts against just nine walks in 39 2/3 frames between two levels.

Top Prospects: Honeywell, TB

Lopez, 23, struggled early, but has shown improvement with each start for Charlotte, completing exactly six innings in four of his past five turns. The No. 39 overall prospect is 4-0 in that stretch, with a 2.73 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings.
