Once again this season, the Seattle Mariners will designate sections of Safeco Field for select games so that individuals and families of those who live with severe peanut allergies can attend games with a reduced risk of exposure to allergens.
The first of the five Peanut-Controlled games is Saturday, May 20, as the Mariners take on the Chicago White Sox. Game time is 7:10pm. Deadline to buy tickets is 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 19.
The special price for all peanut-controlled games is $13 for View Level seats. Tickets in the special seating sections can only be purchased online at Mariners.com/NoPeanuts.
The other four peanut controlled dates are:
- Friday, June 2 vs. Tampa Bay Rays, 7:10 p.m. start
- Sunday, June 25 vs. Houston Astros, 1:10 p.m. start
- Tuesday, July 25 vs. Boston Red Sox, 7:10 p.m. start
- Thursday, August 10 vs. Los Angeles Angels, 7:10 p.m. start
In the special seating sections (Sections 313, 314, 315), no peanuts or peanut products will be permitted. Only those fans who agree to abide by the peanut ban will be allowed to purchase tickets or be present in the seating sections. Concession stands closest to the seating sections will not sell any food with peanut products as ingredients. These seating sections will be thoroughly cleaned prior to the game to remove as many traces of peanuts as possible.
It should be noted that peanut-controlled does not mean peanut-free. Safeco Field is an open-air ballpark, and peanuts will be present in other areas. Fans with peanut allergies should take all precautions that they customarily take in public places. It is estimated that 12 million Americans have food allergies, three million of them children.
