Colorado Rockies recall right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman
DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman from Triple-A Albuquerque and have placed shortstop Trevor Story on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain, retroactive to May 10.
- Hoffman, 24, will make his first start of the season, second appearance, tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers … was appointed as the 26th man for the second game of the Rockies doubleheader with the Cubs on Tuesday … pitched 1.1 innings vs. the Cubs, allowing one run on one hit with no walks and two strikeouts … in six starts with Albuquerque, has gone 2-2 with a 3.71 ERA (34.0 IP, 14 ER), 10 walks and 29 strikeouts … made his Major League debut with the Rockies Aug. 20, 2016 vs. Chicago-NL and went 0-4 with a 4.88 ERA (31.1 IP, 17 ER), 17 walks and 22 strikeouts in eight appearances, six starts, in 2016 … was acquired by the Rockies from the Toronto Blue Jays along with right-handed pitcher Miguel Castro, infielder Jose Reyes and right-hander Jesus Tinoco in exchange for right-hander LaTroy Hawkins and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on July 28, 2015 … was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of East Carolina University. - Story, 24, has batted .180 (20-for-111) with six doubles, six home runs, 15 RBI, 17 walks and 48 strikeouts in 33 games with the Rockies this season … his 17 walks are the most on the club … had hit safely in three of his past four games, going 5-for-14 (.357) … led all Major League rookies with 27 home runs in 2016, the most by a rookie shortstop in National League history … was originally drafted by the Rockies in the first round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
