George Kontos cherishes his family ties. That's one reason he opted to attend Northwestern University, which is close to where he was raised in suburban Chicago.
Though the right-handed reliever spends most of the season thousands of miles away with the San Francisco Giants, his home and loved ones are never far from his mind, as he demonstrates in this Mother's Day tribute to his mom, Theodora, who's pictured with him at a Mother's Day function several years ago at Northwestern.

"Mom, thank you for always being the most selfless and supportive woman in my life," Kontos said. "I wouldn't be where I am today without your support and dedication. Happy Mother's Day and I love you very much!"
