Friday's Phils-Nats opener postponed

WASHINGTON -- The Phillies-Nationals series opener scheduled for Friday night was postponed due to inclement weather, and the contest will be made up as the latter part of a split doubleheader on Sunday at 7:05 p.m. ET.

The postponement will rearrange Philly's rotation for the weekend, with Friday starter Nick Pivetta pitching Saturday night instead, and Vince Velasquez throwing in Sunday night's makeup game. Jeremy Hellickson will get the nod on Sunday afternoon.

Game postponement information

This weekend will already mark the fourth series the Phillies have played against the Nats on the young season. They are 4-5 versus the defending National League East champions thus far, with most of the games being decided by two runs or fewer.

While the Phillies will have to play two games on Sunday, the rescheduled game will still allow them to enjoy their off-day on Monday, which comes before a grueling 16-day stretch without one.
