Nova named NL Pitcher of the Month

Ivan Nova has been named National League Pitcher-of-the-Month for the month of April, Major League Baseball announced.

In five starts last month, the 30-year-old righthander went 3-2 with two complete games and a 1.50 ERA (36.0/6er). He struck out 22 batters and walked just one and capped off the month with a three-hit shutout at Miami on April 29.

This marks the second time in his career that Nova has won the monthly honor. He was named American League Pitcher-of-the-Month in August 2013 after going 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA in six starts with the Yankees.

Gerrit Cole was the last Pittsburgh pitcher to be named N.L. Pitcher-of-the-Month, having done so in April 2015.

In recognition of the award, Nova will receive a specially designed trophy, suitably engraved, for his accomplishment.
