Second baseman Yoan Moncada and right-hander Dane Dunning have been named the Chicago White Sox Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month as voted by a panel of Chicago-area media members.
Moncada, 21, batted .314 (27-86) with four home runs, seven RBI, six stolen bases, 16 runs scored, a .385 on-base and .500 slugging percentage over 21 games in April, his first month in the White Sox organization. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Moncada ranks among the International League leaders in hits (3rd), stolen bases (T3rd, 6), runs scored (4th), home runs (T5th) and total bases (T6th, 43).
Moncada, the No. 1 prospect in the Sox organization and No. 2 in baseball according to both Baseball America and MLB.com, was acquired from Boston on December 6, 2016 with outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe and right-handers Victor Diaz and Michael Kopech.
Dunning, 22, went 2-0 with a 0.35 ERA (1 ER/26.0 IP), two walks, 33 strikeouts and a 0.58 WHIP over four starts with Class A Kannapolis in April. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Dunning ended the month with a streak of 25.0 consecutive IP without allowing an earned run, including a start on April 13 at Hickory when he struck out 13 batters over 8.0 IP. He was promoted to Class A Winston-Salem on April 28.
Dunning, the No. 10 prospect in the Sox organization according to MLB.com, was acquired by the White Sox from Washington on December 7, 2016 with pitchers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez in exchange for outfielder Adam Eaton. He originally was selected by the Nationals in the first round (29th overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft.
