Indians Short Hops: Game 4

BOSTON -- Fielding the Indians' 7-3 Game 4 victory over the Red Sox on a short hop.

In < 25 words ...
Paul Byrd stymied the Sox for five innings before his team scored seven in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 ALCS lead.

Frozen moment
Casey Blake broke up a taut pitching duel by hitting a knuckleball from Tim Wakefield over the left-field wall to lead off the fifth inning for the Indians. That was the start of the Indians' seven-run rally.

More

Big number
11 -- Number of batters that went to the plate for the Indians in the fifth inning as they became the second team in ALCS history to score seven runs in an inning twice in a series. They also had a seven-run 11th inning in Game 2. The Baltimore Orioles had two seven-run innings in the 1970 ALCS.

Game balls

Jhonny Peralta

Four balls. Peralta is earning consideration for ALCS MVP honors. He had the Indians' first hit with a double in the fourth and hit a three-run home run in the fifth.

Paul Byrd

Four balls. Byrd keeps finding a way to win. He also did what he said he would do: he went right after the Red Sox hitters.

Asdrubal Cabrera

Three balls. Cabrera had an infield hit in the seven-run fifth inning but also made a breathtaking, leaping catch of Dustin Pedroia's line drive to end the Red Sox's seventh.

Sense of October
The Indians have a great video on their scoreboard, showing a number of Boston icons, including Tom Brady, Larry Bird, a statue of Paul Revere and the cast of the classic television series "Cheers." They all have a red "Tribe" T-shirt superimposed on them in the video.
