CLEVELAND -- The hour was late, but the fans watching on the Jacobs Field Jumbotron Monday night didn't care.

Approximately 10,000 supporters came to see the Indians finish off the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series.

And that's exactly what the Tribe did. When the Indians' 6-4 victory ended, the fans cheered wildly, jumped up and down and exchanged hugs and high-fives.

A derisive rendition of "New York, New York" was played over the ballpark's sound system, followed by the song "Cleveland Rocks." Fans streamed into the night chanting "Let's Go Tribe" and car horns blared.

"This is great," said George Warren, who walked over from his downtown office to watch the game. "I could have gone home, but I had to be here."

"I've got to be back here by 8 a.m., but I don't care," said Joe Taylor, another downtown worker. "I've got my tickets for the next series. I'll sleep next month."

The Indians advanced to the American League Championship Series and will face Boston. The series begins Friday at Fenway Park. Game 2 is Saturday. The series returns to Jacobs Field next Monday.

Fans held up "Go Tribe" signs that were handed out at the gates and waved the "It's Tribe Time Now" towels from Games 1 and 2 in the series.

It didn't take long for the fans to get excited. Three pitches to be precise. That's when Grady Sizemore's leadoff home run landed in the bleachers in right-center field.

Other than the final out, the biggest cheer came in the bottom of the sixth when Rafael Perez got Derek Jeter to bounce into an inning-ending double play.

The excitement built as the outs wound down. The fans were on their feet for the entire ninth inning and exploded when Joe Borowski struck out Jorge Posada to end the game.

The Indians will host parties at Jacobs Field for their remaining road playoff games.
