Rockies Short Hops: Game 3

DENVER -- Fielding the Rockies' 2-1 victory over the Phillies in Game 3 of the NL Division Series on a short hop.

In < 25 words ...
Jeff Baker's two-out, RBI pinch-single in the eighth inning gave the Rockies a 2-1 win and a series sweep of the Phillies.

Frozen moment
That would be when the Coors Field lights went out in the top of the second inning. There actually were 14 frozen minutes until the computer that runs the lights could be rebooted.

Big number
17 -- That's how many wins the Rockies have in their last 18 games. Since the divisional format began, no team has gone 11-0 through the postseason.

Game balls

Ubaldo Jimenez

He stepped up pretty big for a rookie, the only run he allowed over 6 1/3 innings coming on Shane Victorino's home run.

Kazuo Matsui

The hitting star of Game 2 tripled in the Rockies' first run in the fifth inning.

Jeff Baker

He hit only .222 this year, but Baker delivered the game-winner, an RBI pinch-single in the eighth inning off J.C. Romero.

Sense of October
The temperature at game time was announced as 73 degrees, but fall turned to winter before umpire Chuck Meriwether yelled "Play Ball." The wind picked up and the temperature dropped.

Lines of the Game

Kazuo Matsui
3 AB, 2 H, 1 3B, 1 BB, 1 RBI
Comment: His second triple in as many games drove in the Rockies' first run.

Ubaldo Jimenez
6 1/3 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 5 K
Comment: The rookie comes up big, allowing only Victorino's home run.

"We like it that way. It's us against the world." -- Matt Holliday, on the Rockies' underdog reputation

Next step
The NL West looks pretty deep, as two division rivals meet in the NLCS. The Rockies won the season series against the Diamondbacks, 10-8.
