Trout receives MVP, Silver Slugger hardware

ANAHEIM -- Angels star Mike Trout added two more pieces of hardware to his already-impressive trophy collection on Saturday when he was presented with his 2016 American League MVP and Silver Slugger Awards prior to the Halos' 5-4 win over the Mariners at Angel Stadium.

The Angels held a special on-field ceremony to recognize Trout's accomplishments, which was attended by owner Arte Moreno, general manager Billy Eppler, club president John Carpino and manager Mike Scioscia. Trout's parents, Debbie and Jeff, and his fiancée, Jessica Cox, were also present.

Angels broadcaster Victor Rojas served as the master of ceremonies and offered some opening remarks before leading into a highlight reel of Trout's 2016 campaign.

Trout was then introduced to rousing applause from the fans in Anaheim and received a ring from Moreno emblazoned with the No. 27. In a brief acceptance speech, Trout thanked everyone from Moreno to the Angels' coaching staff, making sure to give a special shout out to his teammates.

"None of this is possible without you guys," Trout said. "You guys pushed me each and every day to be the best I could be."

Trout, 25, captured his second career AL MVP last year after batting .315 with 123 runs scored, 32 doubles, five triples, 29 home runs, 100 RBIs and 116 walks. His bid for a third trophy is off to a strong start, as he capped his big night by powering the Angels to victory Saturday with a two-run, go-ahead home run in the seventh inning.

Through the Angels' first six games of the regular season, Trout is batting .318 (7-for-22) with two homers, two doubles, seven RBIs and two walks.

"Accepting the awards, it means a lot," Trout said afterward. "It was a special night for me, and obviously with the 'W,' it's even bigger."
